Collecting model ships is one of the world's oldest hobbies. Model ship collecting spans the entire world with a language that breaks down cultural barriers. Several cultures have used model ships for unique purposes, such as a burial votive for their dead. However, the technology of today allows for further advancement in the hobby of ship model collecting. The increase in technology has brought about revolutionary changes in model ships. The traditional model ships are not likely to go anywhere, but the new model boats everyone is clamoring for are indeed RC models.

RC electric boats are a techie model collector's dream. The amount of technology that goes into these RC units is enough to make one's head spin. However, with the number of different RC electric boats, the problem lies in choosing the right one. There are plenty of determining factors that go into settling on the right RC electric boat model. One of the things that you should consider is to look at the hull of the boat. This is due to the fact that the shape of the RC electric boat's hull is directly correlated to the speed, stability, and agility of the boat. The hull designs for these electric boats vary, so you will have to know what to look for to gauge how it affects the boat.

First, there is the monohull design, otherwise known as the monoplane hull. The monohull design is comprised of a single continuous surface that stays in constant contact with the water. The monohull design comes in many different assortments. The "vee-shaped" hull is the most popular of monohull designs.

The second option in hull design for RC electric boats is the flat bottom boat. As the name implies, the flat bottom boat is well, flat. Accordingly, the flat bottom design sits flat atop a pocket of air hovering above the water. At the back of the boat in this hull configuration is the RC electric boat motor. An airplane propeller is used to provide the right amount of thrust needed to move the RC boat.

Finally, the third hull design to look out for is the hydroplane hull design. This design is a unique hull that allows for more than one surface to be in contact with the water at a time. With that said, about 2 or 3 surfaces of the boat can be touching water at any given moment. The uniqueness of the hull design allows for a space of air to sit directly underneath the boat. This design allows the ship to be free from drag, as it essentially floats directly above water. The result is an electric RC ship that is capable of much faster speeds than normal.

Other RC electric boats are also available in addition to these types. By looking at the various hulls of these electric ship models you will be able to quickly assess the speed, maneuverability, and much more of your potential boat.
